Glasgow’s music scene has taken a blow with the announcement that MacSorley’s bar will close on Valentine’s Day. The long established venue, bar and restaurant on Jamaica Street has been a part of the city’s live music scene for the last 10 years. The traditional pub itself dates back to 1903.

The news was broken by the owners of MacSorley’s who said: “After a decade of hosting Glasgow’s finest local and international musicians, we are sad to announce the closing of the doors, fittingly on Sunday 14th February.”

“In the spirit of The Last Waltz, the weekend will feature all the usual suspects as well as some very special guests. Please join us and show some love as we say goodbye.”

Alongside providing a stage for local musicians, MacSorley served excellent pub food, earning a nod from The List’s Eating and Drinking Guide.

There’s no news or hints on the future of the building so far but we hope that one of Glasgow’s grand Victorian saloons, packed with character and standing on a busy corner, can return in some new guise.
